5mm Yamamoto Aerodome limestone neoprene, designed such that its placement creates a buoyancy profile specific for fresh water use. We term it the Buoyancy Tray™. The panel adds to core body stabilisation and the central front column shape promotes swim-roll dynamics
Warmth
The ability to enjoy your swim can be a factor of how long you can stay in the water. A substantial part of either end of the swimming season rests in the boundary between 'hot' and 'cold' - within the range 11°-15°C. Increase the length of your swim season by using the attributes of the Titanium lining which reflects between 35-40% of your generated body heat back in to you rather than dissipated out into the water. It works.
Visibility
With increasing recreational water activity it makes sense to do as much as possible to be seen. Arm and Latimus Dorsi panels, made from super supple Yamamoto #40 SCS limestone neoprene, features our vivid coral print, using a thin water based ink in either a hi-vis Orange or Pink (Male / Female). The other suit version is in an equally visible white. They stand out in the water compared to other wetsuits aiding visibility.
Ruby Fresh Wetsuits - a need you never knew you needed...
The concept of making a wetsuit specifically for use in fresh water you might think is obvious. But no one's made one to date. We know! From our root in our event The Ruby Swim and from our solid swimmer base at our HQ in Wanaka NZ, the concept of creating our own wet suit specifically for our requirements emerged. But the concepts are relevant in freshwater lakes, rivers and canals the world over. We have loads planned with different panel profiles and colours yet to come. But take a look at this short movie which shows the environment in which The Ruby Fresh wetsuit was born.
Ruby Fresh are excited to announce we’ve become a licensee of the official FernMark Licence Programme. It’s a programme designed to protect and promote Kiwi products to the world, which is why it’s a great move for the 'Designed in New Zealand' aspect of our wetsuits. Equally, being a licensee now makes Ruby Fresh Open Water Swimming an ambassador for New Zealand, which is both a privilege and an exciting opportunity.

About the Mens Flow Ruby Fresh wetsuit:
Because not all wetsuits are made for salt water.
The three points of difference are: Buoyancy • Warmth • Visibility
These three criteria are designed to create a more efficient swim posture, enhance comfort in colder water - to keep you warmer for longer or, to increase swim duration; and lastly - to be seen.
The Yamamoto #39 & #40 neoprene panels have been optimised for buoyancy at specific positions; flexibility in the arm and lats / shoulder blades; and ease of removal, especially across the heel. For those wanting really fast removal, the seams on the forearm and below the knee are taped overlength to allow further cropping of the suit to personal requirements.
The general idea of swimming fast is about being streamlined in the water as much as anything else. (OK, you need a great catch too... ) There are a number of aspects as to why this is good. Firstly, swimming fast means you do better in swim races! That's obvious, haha... But also, swimming fast feels good. its as simple as that. That aspect is as important as the speed. The feeling you are swimming well means just as much. To create a streamlined position means altering the swimmers buoyancy profile. Since there has not been a wetsuit designed with a buoyancy profile specifically created for fresh water use, we decided to create one.
Generally speaking lakes are colder than the sea. At Lake Wanaka in New Zealand, the water temperatures, at 265m above sea level, range from 8.5°C up to 19°C. But that middle range from 11.5° through to 15.5° is a large part of the year. Numbers of active lake swimmer tend to fall away in those temperatures when 'traditional' swim wetsuits are not really made for any sort of extended time in cooler waters. With Ruby Fresh wetsuits the whole torso section including arms, and the calf panels on the leg feature a layer of Titanium. This reflects between 35% to 40% of generated heat, further increasing the temperature of the trapped layer of water in the suit between the skin and the inner lining.
An interesting feature is a need to make the suit as visible as possible for use in busy multi vessel and user type waterways, but maintaining the dolphin-like feel of the Yamamoto SCS smooth-skin layer. By using a pattern design of hi-vis dayglo orange water based ink, on one arm and the latissimus dorsi side panel, we have attained an increased level of visibility. The effect is quite striking when in use. On our first suit derivation {V1} we used a gold SCS neoprene with a metallic lustre which reflected beautifully in the sun but we found, unfortunately, the gold effect rubbed off after a while which didn't look so hot which was a shame. The Hi Vis Coral Orange really stands out.

About the Womens Flow Ruby Fresh wetsuit:
We took the male design and reimagined the buoyancy requirements for the female form. The wet suit is not simply a resized male version.

What They Say
Buoyancy and visibility in a fresh water environment crucial to an enjoyable and worry-free swim!

Despite an “off the rack” w/suit, fits beautifully. The 5mm front & mid torso panel makes the swimmers “roll” a dream. 1mm arms like a warm skivvy. There’s more, some will find the buoyancy too pronounced but for my “sinking bum” & lanky legs it’s a total swim change in body balance. Now all effort glides me along. Great suit to take off. The visuals are great of course !!
- Roger Soulsby
Knocked 4min off my 1.9k Wanaka Challenge Swim Time. Performance is everything isn't it. Finished the swim fresh and able to run: 2min faster in transition.
- Geoff Williamson - Dunedin
Fantastic suit. Comfortable with great mobility in the arms. Easy to put on and off. No chaffing.
- Richie Lambert
Just wanted to let you know that I tried the wetsuit at Lake Taupō over the weekend. It was good fit, kept me warm, streamlined, and buoyant. No dramas with the wetsuit absolutely. It’s an awesome suit. Thank you! More power to your brand!
