The Roy Thermal Cap is the culmination of real life observations and experimenting with the many design iterations to arrive at this product.
Born under Mount Roy on the shores of Lake Wanaka, New Zealand. Or more properly, it was born IN Roys Bay. Whatever, Lake Wanaka is the ultimate source where water temperature ranges from the high 19's (66°F) all the way down to about 8°C (46°F). Brrrr....
Consequently, the Roy Thermal Cap uses a 3mm #39 Yamamoto neoprene thickness, but combined with a Titanium Alpha foil layer, AND a thermal fleece quick-dry lining. These attributes are a capable combination, and importantly, the cap feels great on. "We are an effective team" said the cap materials.
Design Features
Design Features
There are a number of notable design features aside from material specifications.
• We wanted an adjustable strap tightness. Not happy with the 'one size strap fits all' approach, The Roy Thermal Cap features an adjustable strap. An added design feature is the fluffy Velcro on the side of the head with the sticky Velcro on the strap rather than vice-versa. There's also no long excess strap after the Velcro, which can flap about all over the place, plus it looks unsightly. The strap can thus be positioned at various positions as per preference (see last three images), plus it allows for multiple different head shapes within each size range.
• The front and sides of the cap feature a cinched/tighter panel across the forehead and down the sides in front of the ears to stop this area gaping and allowing water easy entry. This panel is slighter thinner at 2mm to provide a good fit and good comfort. It makes a real difference.
• The rear of The Roy thermal Cap is cut high under the base of the skull. This prevents the rear of the cap rubbing on the top of your wetsuit when in the swimming position, which becomes evident when breathing and twisting the head. Not so evident standing up trying it on.

Fitting Notes
Fitting Notes
Unisex Fit. Because heads are heads.
It is important to make sure the Roy Cap is fully centered across the head and properly positioned on the forehead. Not too high - just above the eyebrows. Make sure the cap is properly centered correctly. It's worth practicing in front of a mirror so you remember the correct fit and feel for when out in the wild.
We recommend a brightly coloured swim cap over the top to increase visibility.
